THE ORIGINAL ONES WERE MADE OF PLASTIC AND SOME HAVE BROKE. THE TOP OF THE STAKES NEEDS TO BE 1 INCH IN DIAMETER TO HOLD THE STAINLESS POLE THAT HOLDS THE LIGHTS. COULD ALSO MOUNT THE LIGHTS ON THE FENCE POSTS IF SOMEONE HAS AN IDEA HOW.-

You cant really, you could try and get to your local hardware store and find some PVC pipe that will be the same size os what you need. You could always try and call the manufacture to see if they will see you parts over the phone, stores will not have actually replacements for these.

Do solar yard lights need new batteries yearly?
I have the kind you stick in the ground and they are only a year or 2 old. Some of them don't come on anymore. Do I need to change the battery?

Actually these exterior yard lights dont usually make it more than 1 to 2 seasons..Most I have seen usually rust up immediately inside on the prongs that the batteries touch for connection.They usually end up in the trash about this point..but yes they need to have the battery changed pretty often..if the battery change does not help it..where the ends of the battery touch inside..see if it isn't rusted up..You can take a fingernail board or fine sandpaper and sand the rust off and then install new batteries

I have some solar yard lights. Can I charge the batteries in a charger on a cloudy day?-
ANSWER:
I already do this, it's fine.
After a few years the batteries will wear out and need to be replaced; also some chargers just don't work as well as others. They're made pretty cheaply nowadays. Try mixing up the batteries to see if it's the battries or the charging units that are causing the lights to not charge properly.After a real recharge, thye REALLY glow brightly! It's fun!

The solar panel charges a battery which operates the light at night. There's a photo sensor (the solar panel itself when it detects no sunlight) that detects the ambient light to switch day/night charge/'discharge through bulb' modes. The LED is driven by a DC source generated by a complementary symmetry astable oscillator which is switched off or on depending on whether daylight is falling on the solar panels or not. The trip level is set by The IN5817 in circuit A and by the T3904/18K resistor in Circuit B.
